Washington University Planning Major Diabetes Study

ST. LOUIS-(KMOX)-A major five-to-seven year study on Type Two diabetes medicines with clinical trials is planned at the Washington University School of Medicine.

Researcher Dr. Janet McGill says one trial will test the effectiveness of four popular medications for Type Two diabetes.

"The long term study will provide all of the diabetes medications and testing supplies for the duration of the study," McGill said.

Other participants will have a chance to test a new medication for Type Two diabetes that's not yet on the market. Researchers are also testing the effectiveness of a new delivery system, a toothpick-sized implant, capable of delivering diabetes medicine to a patient for up to six months.

Researchers want to hear from Type Two diabetes patients ages eighteen and older. They hope to enroll about two hundred people in the program.

Anyone who would like to participate is asked to contact Lori Buechler at the Washington University School of Medicine at (314) 747-0070, or she can be reached by email at labuechl@dom.wustl.edu
